Cape Cod
Gold sand beaches and whitewashed homes
Gabled roofs rise tall and alone
Wetlands filled with cranberry bogs
Swirl about with a lacy fog
A wild coastline where a lighthouse beams
Just steps away from the Vineyard Inn
A flaming bonfire warms a night on the beach
Where a fishing village is within reach
Chasing through trees the glow of fireflies
Capturing their light in a jar alive
Things I've tucked in the recess of my mind
Of the east Coast days that I left behind
Evening By The Sea
The evening crept in
Like delicate musical notes
A light wind kept a few leaves afloat
The sun flickered softly
As it retreated into the sea
Light steam arose from my raspberry tea
The quail called to each other not far away
As fish jumped into a nearby bay
Moths flew down as lanterns blinked on
And fluttered as to the glow they're drawn
Daylight mixed into the darkness with ease
Stars twinkled above the salty breeze
A scent swept in, the smell of sage on the hills
The kittiwake took flight, making its shrill
As the water chuckled over stones and filled
Tidepools that dot the shore deep and still
Night is an evocative time by the sea
Where all life finds its spirit and waves are set free
Shadows and Light
Shadows darken as I write
As before me unfolds the night
Time to think
Time to brood
A dim light's shifting around the room
Where do words go when left unsaid?
Transmission lost from heart to head
Locked in a pirate's trunk on the seabed?
With a deadbolt lock encased in lead?
Mysteries deepen as night descends
Light plays on the change and then
Twilight comes, the sky turns French blue
The flame of a candle burns all the way through
Time to think
Time to renew
Ambedo
The day was gray
No sun in sight
Slick raindrops clung to my window tight
Tall trees leaned as far down as they could
As the raging wind about them blew
My mind diverged
Into a melancholy trance
And on the roof, the raindrops danced
The clouds of cream
In my coffee swirled
Like an iridescent mother-of-pearl
And at that moment
I felt energized
A lucid dream, I memorized
A thought's romance
Is all one needs
For vivid thoughts, on dreams they feed
Pageantry
Gold rays danced in the sky
They clothed the horizon from on high
They filled the billowy clouds with light
So much is its dominating might
The sun bowed low into the sea
A last gesture, like one of gentry
And the night moved slowly on
With the poise of a slender black swan
But the sun with a few sparkles left
Dipped into the sea with still some regret
And the oncoming night stars then appeared
Shining brightly in regard, for one so revered
The Battle of the Skies
The fading sun darkens the sea as I write
Far off, a black cloud appears in the night
It strikes slivers of dazzling light
And a lightning storm begins its fight
It battles against the vibrant hue
Of a deepest electric blue
It struggles to overtake its might
And engulf the tiny starlights
And when the silken blue has won
The darkness of night skies lifts some
And once again a sleepy lull has come
The stillness rules when the war is done
